Aishwarya Sagar, deputy commissioner of police, airport division, Bidhannagar commissionerate, said Chhaochharia had sent a complaint to them through email.

“We got in touch with her after getting the email and informed her that we would treat it as her formal complaint. On Saturday, her father visited the NSCBI police station to lodge a complaint. We have drawn up the FIR,” Sagar told Metro.

Saraogi has been booked under Sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment) and 79 (uttering words or making sound or gesture or exhibiting any object in any form that insults the modesty of a woman and intrudes upon her privacy) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). If found guilty, he can face up to five years of jail.

“We will be recording her statement through video-conferencing. We have started a case and will decide the course of action after recording her statement,” said an officer.

The officer said they were getting in touch with Saraogi’s office and trying to reach him in Oman. “We will also send a notice at his registered addresses to appear for an investigation.”

Saraogi is the CEO of Vulcan Green Steel, a part of the Jindal Steel Group.

The company has promised an internal investigation and promised the woman “the strictest necessary action”.
