The area has been declared a containment zone.

Four family members of the nurse, including her husband and mother-in-law, were sent to isolation at a Covid-19 hospital in Burdwan town. Their home has been sanitised to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Sources in the district administration said the nurse had come home on May 2 on holiday from Calcutta and fallen ill the same day. She visited the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital for Covid-19 test on Monday and the report showed her to be positive.

As the woman’s husband worked at the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) in Burdwan town, officials are trying to identify those who came in contact with him.

“We came to know that her husband had come in contact with many officials of the WBSEDCL. We are trying to identify and quarantine them,” an officer of East Burdwan’s Covid-19 management wing said.

“We are also trying to identify the persons who came in contact with the mother-in-law and two other family members of the nurse. They will also be quarantined,” he added.
