Timber seized

Acting on a tip-off, foresters seized an illegal consignment of timber from NH-27 near Mainaguri in Jalpaiguri on Thursday.

Dwijapratim Sen, divisional forest officer of the Gorumara wildlife division, said their personnel stopped a truck bearing the registration number of Haryana, while it was moving through Mainaguri. As they searched the vehicle, 15 cubic feet of Burma teak — the cost of which is around 25 lakh — was found.

Foresters have also seized the truck. The driver and the cleaner have been arrested.
