CPM Diamond Harbour candidate Fuad Halim was allegedly attacked during a clash between his party’s cadres and Trinamul workers on Saturday.

The attack on Fuad — son of the late CPM veteran and Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim — occurred when the two parties took out rallies around the same time and came face to face in Gurudasnagar, South 24 Parganas, police said.

Sources said this was the second attack on Fuad in the past three weeks during campaigning in the constituency from where Abhishek Banerjee, the outgoing MP and chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, is seeking re-election.

Fuad claimed Trinamul supporters attacked him in front of policemen. Trinamul leaders denied the allegations.
