Arrest over NH12 work

Police sources said the accused had been stopped near Ranaghat while driving towards Dignagar with his aides

One person was arrested on Thursday night for allegedly instigating people to prevent the Nadia administration from widening NH12 between Krishnanagar and Jagulia starting in October last year.

Syed Ahmed, president of the Jana Jagarani Manch based in North 24-Parganas’s Amghata, was arrested following a prolonged interrogation after he had been detained on Thursday afternoon.

Police sources said the accused had been stopped on NH12 near Ranaghat while driving towards Dignagar with his aides. The sources added the accused had been trying to prevent officials from clearing encroachers on the government-acquired land there.
