Spotify will soon have a section dedicated to keeping users abreast of soon-to-be-released albums. Called Upcoming Releases, it will feature personalised recommendations based on a user’s listening history.

You will be able to access it through the Search tab on mobile in the “browse all” section, which will also feature the top 10 global Countdowns, which are the most anticipated upcoming releases based on the number of pre-saves.

“Fans can easily pre-save multiple upcoming releases directly from the hub and quickly jump into Countdown Pages to preview the tracklists, stream released singles, watch Clips, find merch, and follow the countdown right up until release. On release day, we’ll send a push notification to all the fans who’ve pre-saved, automatically adding the music to their library,” Spotify said.

Countdowns have proved successful for Spotify. The streaming service has seen the success and momentum Countdown Pages can build. Since launching in Summer 2024, 60 per cent of major artistes — including Charli xcx, Billie Eilish, and Bad Bunny — have used Countdown Pages to drive pre-release hype with fans.

“By ranking the top pre-saved releases globally, we’re giving artistes a powerful new way to build anticipation and connect with their biggest fans in the lead-up to release day,” said Madeleine Bennett, senior director, head of global music go-to-market, Spotify.

The company continues to update its app with additional functionality. Earlier this month, the service redesigned its app to give users more control over their listening experience. The redesign includes new features to help users manage their Queue, current listening experience, playlist creation, and more.
