Samsung is expanding its digital car key technology in India, partnering with Mahindra to let owners of Electric Origin SUVs unlock, lock and even start their vehicles using a Galaxy smartphone. The move, part of a wider push towards connected mobility, makes Mahindra Group the first Indian original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to integrate the Digital Car Key feature with Samsung Wallet.
The feature allows compatible Galaxy phones to act as virtual car keys, built directly into the device’s operating system. Once paired, drivers can walk up to their vehicle and unlock it with a tap or simply by proximity, depending on the model. The car can also be started without a physical key, and digital access can be shared temporarily with friends or family members through the Wallet app.
Madhur Chaturvedi, senior director of services and apps business at Samsung India, said the partnership reflects the company’s focus on creating “connected and secure experiences” across its Galaxy ecosystem. “Expanding access to Samsung Digital Car Key is an important part of our commitment to making everyday activities—like driving—hassle-free for more Galaxy users,” he said.
