From July 21 to 27, Harrods will host Sabyasachi High Jewellery for the very first time, marking a landmark partnership between the acclaimed Indian design house and the historic British luxury store. The exclusive showcase will unfold within the Penthouse Suite on the top floor of Harrods’s iconic Knightsbridge location, where Sabyasachi will unveil a specially curated High Jewellery collection crafted solely for this occasion.
Since its inception, Sabyasachi has redefined jewellery design, weaving heritage Indian craftsmanship and the centuries-old gold-smithing traditions of North Calcutta into every piece. Through his creations, he challenges conventional notions of value and the veneration of precious stones. “My two decades as a colourist guides me as a jeweller, especially when working with multi-coloured gemstones. For me, the quality of gemstones is a given, but the beauty of jewellery-making is in disrupting the hierarchy of precious stones and mixing them in a fierce amalgamation of modernity and traditionalism,” said Sabyasachi in an official note.
The Sabyasachi Jewellery X Harrods Collection distils the most exemplary pieces from each of the brand’s core languages — Bengal Royale and Bengal Byzantine Broadway.
BENGAL ROYALE
Step back into the 1920s, when the narrow lanes of North Calcutta buzzed with fierce debate, radical ideas, and poetic rebellion. It was an era ignited by passion and conflict, where freedom fighters, royals, writers, artists, and thinkers converged to shape the fabric of society. Amidst dusty Venetian chandeliers and worn terrazzo floors, beauty found its true expression — in art, words, architecture, fashion and jewellery. This was a golden age for Indian jewellery-making, where Mughal opulence merged seamlessly with European techniques and Bengali filigree artistry. From Georgian influences to the splendour of Belle Époque, The Bengal Royale collection by Sabyasachi pays tribute to this timeless chapter — a homage to an age of uncompromising thought, exceptional craftsmanship, and unmatched sartorial elegance.
BENGAL BYZANTINE BROADWAY
This collection fuses Bengal’s masterful craftsmanship with the gilded grandeur of Byzantium and the theatricality of modern times, charting a journey from Calcutta to the West along a new silk route. Each piece sparks a fresh conversation between heritage and modern perspective, blending Art Deco geometry, tropical whimsy and heritage Indian embroidery that showcases the fine gold-smithing of the Babus of Bengal. This collection seamlessly interweaves East and West, tradition and rebellion, precious and profane, sensorial with the intellectual like never before.
Talking about the massive collaboration, the designer said, “I am honoured to present Sabyasachi High Jewellery at Harrods in London, the epicentre of taste and sophistication which showcases the pinnacle of the world’s finery. This residency will bring the best of Indian craftmanship and design to the unparalleled, global clients of Harrods. Together we will delight the senses of the world’s most discerning and uncompromising customers."
