Indrasis Acharya’s latest film, Goodbye Mountain, featuring Rituparna Sengupta and Indraneil Sengupta in the leading roles, had the unique honour of being screened at Raj Bhavan on August 23. The film was presented to an exclusive audience in the Central Marble Hall of the residence of the governor of West Bengal, C.V. Ananda Bose. Goodbye Mountain tells the story of a couple reuniting after two decades, delving into the emotions that resurface between them. Set against the stunning backdrop of Wayanad, Kerala, the film portrays their rekindled bond.

Rituparna Sengupta shared her thoughts on why she pursued a screening at the Raj Bhavan, saying, “I have always aimed to be innovative with the promotions of my films. Years ago, we screened Muktodhara at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where our former president Pranab Mukherjee and his wife were in attendance. Today, I am overjoyed to have the chance and privilege to screen Goodbye Mountain here. This is a rare honour for us, as no movie screening has ever taken place at Raj Bhavan before. I am truly grateful to our esteemed governor, C.V. Ananda Bose, for making this opportunity possible.”

After exchanging pleasantries, Rituparna presented the governor with a bouquet of flowers before starting the film screening for him and the special guests. “The movie was exceptional. Rituparna has truly showcased her remarkable talent as a heroine. She is indeed a gifted individual. The film successfully creates a willing suspension of disbelief. I was captivated; it felt like it was not Rituparna, it was Anandi. This film explores fundamental human emotions — especially love. The execution is commendable, and it resonates with two places that I hold dear, Bengal and Kerala, where the film was shot in Wayanad. It touches a personal chord. It’s a feast for the eyes and the mind. The portrayal of basic human emotions is both subtle and exemplary,” said C.V. Ananda Bose. When asked about his engagement with Bengali cinema, he playfully responded, “In recent years, I haven’t just been watching Bengali films; I’ve been watching all of Bengal!”

Rituparna expressed her excitement about the film’s deep ties with Kerala, which inspired her to arrange a special screening for the governor. “Goodbye Mountain has a significant connection to Kerala, as we filmed it in the stunning Wayanad resort. Our governor, being an author and an art enthusiast from Kerala, seemed like the perfect audience for this film that highlights both Bengal and Kerala’s rich cultures. He holds Bengali culture and literature in high esteem, so I approached him about our screening. We are truly grateful that he took the time to watch the entire movie and provided such thoughtful feedback. He specifically praised my performance and highlighted the film’s powerful themes. Thanks to Wayanad Films and NK Mohamed, who produced the film, the movie is now entering its sixth week in theatres. I feel blessed by all the support and love we’ve received,” Rituparna shared. Indrasis Acharya, thrilled about the screening, added, “The first joy for me was entering Raj Bhavan, a place I had always wanted to visit. Moreover, having our film shown to the governor was an incredible honour. He was thoroughly engaged with the film and offered us high praise during our discussions. All thanks to Rituparna for making this happen.”

On being invited to Raj Bhavan to attend a special celebration for Onam, the actress seized the moment to unveil the poster of her forthcoming film, Bela, to the governor and first lady, Lakshmi Ananda Bose. Directed by Anilavaa Chatterjee, this film will vividly portray the life of the legendary radio host, Bela Dey, highlighting her inspiring journey of empowerment through the renowned radio show, Mohila Mahal, which has motivated countless women.

Rituparna expressed her gratitude, stating, “To enhance this wonderful celebration, the governor and the first lady graciously inaugurated the poster of my new film, Bela. Madam governor was thrilled to learn about the legacy of Bela Dey. They both signed the poster, wishing the film great success. I will always cherish their kindness. It fills me with joy and pride, and I look forward to organising more screenings in partnership with Raj Bhavan in the future. They have also invited some wonderful audiences to experience the film. I sincerely appreciate the support from the entire team at Raj Bhavan.”
