Prosenjit Chatterjee stars as Kakababu in the adventure film Vijaynagar’er Hirey, the fourth film of the Kakababu franchise. A thrilling, fast-paced narrative, it finds the familiar and well-loved characters of Kakababu, Shantu and Jojo embarking on a treasure hunt amidst the medieval temple ruins of Hampi in south India. The title song of the film, besides capturing the film’s spirit of action and adventure, has added significant interest in the film.

An important component of Vijaynagar’er Hirey’s soundtrack, the song evokes the thrill of a new quest into the unknown, that is full of unexpected challenges and unforeseen dangers. A dynamic and energetic number, it effectively sets the tone of the film and mirrors its themes of adventure, courage, mystery, myth and history. Performed by vocal powerhouse Rupam Islam, the track is presented in his signature intense, emphatic and textured vocal style, reflecting the film’s mood of danger, mystery, suspense and excitement.

Its lyrics penned by Srijato and the music and design by Indraadip Dasgupta are crafted like a motivational anthem to mark the beginning of a new, adventurous expedition by Kakababu and his young companions. It anticipates the perils that lie in wait for the group and, at the same time, asserts with confidence their triumph over their adversaries. The lyrics are powerful and engaging, inviting the listener to visualise the world of the film and to look forward to the exciting journey and treasure hunt that lie in store for them. It provides clues about the historical context of Vijaynagar’er Hirey, and offers hints on Kakababu’s clash with criminals who are also enemies of the country.

A high-energy rock aesthetic defines the track which is intensified by its music video featuring Prosenjit, Aryann Bhowmik (Shantu) and Pushan Dasgupta (Jojo), besides the singer himself. Rupam’s high-octane performance sparks excitement in the actors who groove enthusiastically to his rhythm and energy. Prosenjit, as usual, cuts an ageless and sprightly figure in the song, ably accompanied by the youngsters Aryann and Pushan, who are clearly having fun during the making of the video. Animated videos of past adventures along with clips of the trio exploring the temples of Hampi, hunting for clues and encountering criminals in their search for the diamond, add to the thrilling vibe of the song, and set an appropriate tone for the film as a whole.

An interesting aspect of the song is that alongside a modern, fast-paced tone, it fuses within it elements of south Indian music, reflecting its story set against the backdrop of the ancient Vijaynagara Empire in south India. The rock-infused energy of the title track blends smoothly with the beats of Carnatic music to build the film’s gorgeous and enigmatic mood of historical grandeur, suspense and intrigue.

Directed by Chandrasish Ray and also starring Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Satyam Bhattacharya, Rajnandini Paul and Anujoy Chattopadhyay in key roles, Vijaynagarer Hirey is currently running in theatres.
