AI search company Perplexity wants some of the browser action on Android. The startup has launched its AI-focused Comet browser for the platform. The browser was made available for the desktop in July.

Comet features an assistant that answers questions using Perplexity’s AI-powered search engine, helping summarise the contents of webpages across all open tabs and responds to queries about sites that users have open. It can complete tasks online on behalf of users, using either text or voice instructions.

In the coming weeks, the company is expected to add new features to the app, including a conversational agent that can search across sites and take actions.

Though Perplexity has chosen to launch on Android, the company said it will also come to iOS soon. Android has been given priority because of the volume of carriers and OEMs that have asked the startup to include Comet on their devices and solutions.
