Friends Communication has unveiled the teaser of Joto Kando Kolkatatei, the much-anticipated Bengali film by director Anik Dutta. The film promises a rich blend of mystery, nostalgia, and the sharp, intelligent humour that has become Dutta’s signature. Abir Chatterjee steps into the role of Topshe — not just the loyal sidekick this time, but the sleuth himself. While the title may evoke memories of a Feluda story, this film carves its own path, blending homage with originality.
Joining Chatterjee is a talented ensemble cast including Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Roja Paromita Dey, Rik Chatterjee, and Aparajita Ghosh. Seasoned actors like Dulal Lahiri, Mithu Chakraborty, and Rajat Ganguly lend gravitas and depth to the narrative.
“Like thousands of others, I am a huge Feluda fan. I always wanted to do a Feluda film, but for various reasons, that wasn't possible. Then the next best thing was to write something, or think of a story which has shades of Feluda and yet is a little different. I don't have the audacity to write a Feluda story, nor am I allowed by the copyright rules. Therefore, I chose to write something that would be more like a story. Then I spoke to Sandip Ray, who is like my elder brother, and he said 'yes'. Then my producer, Firdausul Hasan, told me, 'Make the other film that you were talking about'. I included some mystery to the story, and also the story of one searching for roots," said Anik Dutta.
Speaking about the film, producer Firdausul Hasan shared, “Joto Kando Kolkatatei is my tribute to Calcutta, the city I love the most. This is a film you can watch with your entire family — parents, children, everyone. It’s made for all age groups, and we hope it brings people together.” As anticipation mounts, Joto Kando Kolkatatei is shaping up to be one of the year’s most awaited Bengali films — a gentle thriller infused with the heartbeat of the city. The story journeys across the city of Calcutta itself — uncovering riddles, relationships, and buried truths.
“Joto Kando Kolkatatei is our third collaboration with Anikda, after Meghnadbodh Rohosyo and Aparajito. This one is special — the film draws from the emotional and cultural roots of Bengal. Calcutta isn’t just the backdrop here, it’s the soul. We hope this will intrigue audiences and set the mood for what’s coming this Puja," added Hasan.
