Team Bhutopurbo recently got together for the premiere of the film, an evocative horror anthology that reimagines three iconic ghost stories from Bengal’s rich literary tradition. Directed by Kakoli Ghosh and Avinab Mukherjee, Bhutopurbo ventures into the world of supernaturals, where tradition meets contemporary storytelling. The film weaves together tales of loss, mysticism, and fear through a modern cinematic lens. Bhutopurbo adapts three iconic Bengali horror stories by Rabindranath Tagore, Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, and Manoj Sen.
“With Bhutopurbo, we wanted to rekindle the art of storytelling that once made audiences believe in the unseen. These are not just ghost stories, they are reflections of deep fears, unspoken desires and lingering memories. Our aim has been to blend the classic with the contemporary and offer a haunting experience that stays with the viewer. From the very first gasp in the auditorium to the thunderous applause at the end, witnessing Bhutopurbo’s stories come alive through the eyes of our audience has been nothing short of magical. Every shiver, every chilling noise and every cheer reaffirmed our belief in the timeless power of Bengali literature connected to supernatural elements. We are deeply grateful for the warmth and enthusiasm with which viewers have embraced our maiden venture,” said Kakoli Ghosh and Avinab Mukherjee.
“The shooting experience was really enjoyable and quite unique. Since the film is an anthology, each story was shot separately with its own cast and crew. We shot my part at a beautiful rajbari in Baruipur, which is said to be haunted. So, of course, that added a whole other layer to the experience,” said Sandipta Sen.
