Samsung usually hosts a mid-year Galaxy Unpacked event to introduce its foldable phones. We have already experienced the magic of the new Galaxy S25 series in January. It’s time for foldable phones.
The successors to Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 will have updates worthy of flagship-grade phones. Here’s an overview of the features we anticipate from the premium foldable devices.
For some years, Samsung has been making small updates to the design. This year, Samsung may amp up in the design department. Given the success of the Galaxy S25 Edge with its 5.8mm thickness, it won’t be a surprise if we find Samsung keeping Fold7 very slim. We want it to be something like 3.9-4mm when unfolded. It is important to have a slim foldable phone because they tend to be thick when folded.
Another area where Samsung can consider important updates is the camera department. The Fold7 may get upgraded to 200MP. So far, foldable phones have offered good but not Galaxy S-level cameras. If true, it will be quite the upgrade from the 50MP cameras we are used to.
We also hope that Samsung improves the under-display camera (meant for video calls) on the inside of the Galaxy Z Fold7. A higher resolution sensor will help. Also, the cameras may appear more flush with the body compared to those of Galaxy Z Fold6.
In the performance department, Samsung is expected to go with a very powerful processor, probably the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the same system-on-chip found in the Galaxy S25 series. Further, Fold7 may come with 256GB of storage as standard, and then 512GB and 1TB for a few hundred extra dollars. In the RAM department, 12GB is likely and that should be enough to tackle most artificial intelligence-related features. But we will never say ‘no’ to 16GB RAM!
Now that Android 16 is on the way, the new foldable phones could be among the first Android devices to have the new OS very soon. Samsung has already launched the One UI 8 beta for Galaxy S25 phones, so big news is expected in the software section.
In the last couple of years, Samsung hasn’t added anything new to the stylus or S Pen for the Fold. Rumour has it that a brand-new S Pen is coming our way, with a new tip. If that happens, it will help artistes.
Battery life may also improve, mainly thanks to software updates. We are sure about new AI capabilities arriving with the Fold and Flip, given how closely Samsung and Google work together in the software department. And if Samsung gets serious about the “Ultra” aspect, we may see several big updates around artificial intelligence features.
