Starring Paoli Dam and Swastika Mukherjee in leading roles, who come together for a film after a decade (they were last seen together in Mainak Bhaumik’s Family Album), Bibi Payra highlights the chaotic journey of the two women as they decide to take the bold step of taking control of their lives and thus changing the way they live. It suggests a plot filled with energy, excitement and unexpected twists and turns. Set in Bengali middle-class suburbia, its narrative will perhaps focus on how the two women, Shiuli (Swastika) and Jhuma (Paoli), devise an idea to get out of the rut their lives have got into when they cannot bear the drudgery and toil of suburban life any longer.
Swastika and Paoli’s compelling, high-energy performances are a highlight of the teaser. Navigating desperate, reckless situations, the duo demonstrate an intense, dramatic and humorous chemistry, promising a gripping woman-centric narrative. A quirky, unconventional story, Bibi Payra also promises to be a tale of women’s empowerment. As seen in the teaser, chaos follows after the two women take the reins of their lives into their own hands, putting the duo and their families in challenging situations.
However, they learn to find their way out of adversity and through a comedy of errors are probably able to turn the tide in their favour in the end. The teaser depicts some of Shiuli and Jhuma’s various misadventures, using their will-power and intelligence to get out of sticky situations, sometimes donning disguises, at others beguiling their opponents with their charm, their united efforts helping them to hold their ground in unfavourable conditions and emerge victorious against the odds.
Designed to attract family audiences, the teaser mainly focuses on light-hearted, entertaining aspects of the narrative, and also includes a lively and colourful song and dance sequence featuring both lead actresses. Despite the fun, it also has emotional depth and includes poignant, heartfelt moments in the teaser and is expected to provide a well-rounded, engaging experience. A feel-good, breezy and delightful narrative, the film’s mix of action, humour and sentiment is expected to go down well with modern audiences looking forward to a good time at the movies.
Also starring Anirban Chakrabarti, Anindya Sengupta, Subrat Dutta, Loknath Dey and others in key roles, Bibi Payra, written and directed by Arjunn Dutta, will release in theatres on April 10.
