It’s going to rain gadgets on September 9 as Apple prepares for its ‘Awe Dropping’ event. Of course, everyone expects the next generation of iPhones (most likely to be called iPhone 17) and, like always, a new series of Apple Watch. Any word on the new wrist companions? There are plenty of rumours floating around.
Three’s company
Based on the naming strategy, Apple Watch Series 11 is expected to be revealed and Apple Watch Ultra 3. These two watches will be kept company by the next-gen SE model, according to a report from Bloomberg. The Apple Watch Ultra and the cheaper SE line are always difficult to predict because they don’t follow the usual cycle.
According to the report, the new Watch SE may have a refreshed exterior. The Ultra may get satellite connectivity and 5G RedCap network access that would bring even the most remote adventures “on the grid”, even if the user is not using a data plan to connect to the Internet.
Since Ultra 2 was given a small upgrade last year in a new titanium black colourway, the updates this year should be noteworthy. Besides 5G connectivity boost to its navigation, there will be better communication and music streaming capabilities.
People’s favourite
The main series is always the favourite. Last year, the Series 10 got a wraparound screen redesign, a slimmer body and a new chipset. Instead of a design change this year, a new chip is likely. Further, it will get all the new software chops coming with watchOS 26, including the AI-powered Workout Buddy feature and redesigned Workout app. What we are looking for is the blood-pressure detection feature. Samsung Galaxy Watch has been offering the feature, so it’s time for Apple to get into the swing of pressure monitoring.
With watchOS 26, there will be a new gesture to dismiss notifications and a smarter Smart Stack watch face.
Something for youngsters
Many parents prefer giving an Apple Watch SE to teenagers instead of a phone because it can be used as a communication device. The SE series gets an update every few years. The SE 3 may not get the Series 10’s wraparound screen, but there will be improvements on the chipset front, besides, of course, access to new software features. What could be more interesting is the choice of colours, beyond midnight, starlight, and silver.
