In a year filled with cinematic highs and standout performances, 2025 has firmly established itself as a turning point for Abir Chatterjee. With the success of Raktabeej 2, the actor has scored his third consecutive Puja superhit in collaboration with directors Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee under Windows Production.
This latest release not only marks a triumphant return of the Raktabeej franchise but also completes an extraordinary trifecta for the team — Raktabeej (2023), Bohurupi (2024), and now Raktabeej 2 (2025). All three films have reaffirmed the enduring magic of well-told Bengali stories on the big screen.
Sequels often come with heightened expectations, especially when the original becomes a cultural touchstone. Raktabeej, released during Puja 2023, was lauded for its gripping plot, nuanced performances, and masterful direction. It was a bold, layered thriller that not only entertained but also provoked thought. Audiences were eagerly waiting to see if the sequel would live up to its predecessor’s reputation.
With elevated production values and a more emotionally complex narrative, Raktabeej 2 has expanded the Raktabeej universe while staying true to its core themes. Abir’s performance, in particular, has drawn widespread acclaim.
“It’s always a pleasure working with Abir. Back in Puja 2023, we ventured into a new genre with him, something completely new for us. The audience embraced it, and the success encouraged us to keep exploring and experimenting. I truly believe our collaboration will continue to grow, and we have many more stories to tell together. Abir is truly a gem of the Bengali film industry, and I genuinely hope this association continues for years to come," said Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee.
“This success is a result of teamwork only. Working with Nanditadi and Shibuda is not just about acting in a film. It’s about co-creating narratives that resonate deeply with people. These stories aren’t just watched — they're felt, discussed, and remembered long after the credits roll. With every success, responsibilities go higher. Introspection is a must, so that we don't miss out on anything that our audience expects from us. There is no substitute for hard work," said Abir.
“Even after delivering Bohurupi — the highest-grossing Bengali film of 2024, released during Durga Puja — we found ourselves allotted fewer shows this year. It’s deeply concerning, as the parameters that determine showcasing remain unclear and inconsistent. Yet, in spite of the limited number of shows, the first-week box office performance of Raktabeej 2 has been truly heartwarming. It once again reinforces the pattern we’ve witnessed with Raktabeej, Bohurupi, and now Raktabeej 2: when the content connects, audiences follow,” said writer Zinia Sen.
What’s particularly striking about this trilogy of successes is the timing. All three films — Raktabeej, Bohurupi, and Raktabeej 2 — were released during Durga Puja. Releasing a film during Puja is both a massive opportunity and a high-risk endeavour. The competition is intense, and audience expectations are sky-high.
This hat-trick is a testament to several factors: consistent storytelling, deep characterisation, audience insight, and of course, the impeccable synergy between actor and directors. With Raktabeej 2 still enjoying a strong theatrical run and audiences demanding more from this universe, speculation is already rife about a possible Raktabeej 3. Neither the directors nor Abir have confirmed anything yet, but their responses have been anything but dismissive. As the curtains rise on a new era of storytelling, audiences are watching — and waiting— for what this dream team will deliver next.
