Tatanagar railway authorities have once again taken steps to remove encroachment from Tinplate locality of steel city.

A team of engineering division of the Tatanagar railway on Saturday carried out a survey of the unauthorised houses and business establishments set up on the railway land in Tinplate along the Golmuri-Telco Road.

Assistant engineer-I, Tatanagar railway, Sanjay Kumar, confirmed a fresh survey of the establishments at Tinplate.

He said they started the survey after getting instructions from Chakradharpur railway division.

“Once the survey of the encroached land at Tinplate is done, we will send the report to the divisional railway manager, Chakradharpur. The survey will help start an anti-encroachment drive in the locality,” said Sanjay.

Officials of the railway engineering division and a large number of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel where at the site of the survey.

Tatanagar RPF inspector M.K. Sahoo said: “We had to give company to the railway officials as there were chances of resistance from people who have settled down on the railway land.”

A year ago, the railways had served notices to over 100 house owners, who have settled down on the land, asking them why the railways shouldn’t ask them to vacate the land.

A section of the slum-dwellers had initially submitted their replies to the railways, but later they approached the local administration and turned hostile, declaring they would not part with their houses.

Now, after divisional railway manager Pradeep Kumar Sahoo joined the Chakradharpur division in January, he took a fresh initiative to remove the encroachment from the land and instructed the engineering division to carry it out.
