Rishabh Pant is in doubt for the rest of the ODI series against Australia after being diagnosed with concussion.

The wicketkeeper-batsman was struck on the helmet by a short delivery from Pat Cummins in the 44th over. Beaten by the pace, the ball hit the top edge of Pant’s bat and ricocheted off his helmet towards point where Ashton Turner took an easy catch.

He didn’t show any immediate discomfort but a little later it was clear that all was not well. Pant didn’t come out with the players during the customary warm-up session before the innings with KL Rahul donning the big gloves.

“Rishabh Pant is under observation,” the BCCI said in a statement. “His progress will be tracked overnight. A specialist has been consulted and an update will be given accordingly.”

If the selectors choose to name a replacement, Sanju Samson could get the nod.
