Neeraj, Antil javelins under hammer

The e-auction will begin at 10am on Friday, September 17, Modi’s birthday

The javelins that Neeraj Chopra and Sumit Antil threw for gold in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics will go under the virtual hammer as part of the Union culture ministry’s e-auction of gifts and mementos received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The e-auction will begin at 10am on Friday, September 17, Modi’s birthday.

The memorabilia include sports gear and equipment of the medal winning Olympians and Paralympians, and a replica of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

The base price of the javelins used by Chopra and Antil is Rs 1 crore. Also to go under the hammer are the blue pair of gloves worn by bronze-winning Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain during her bout. The pair has a base price of Rs 80 lakh.

A stole signed by all the Olympians and an angavastra signed by all the paralympians will each go under the hammer for a starting price of Rs 90 lakh.

Those interested can participate in the e-auction through the website: https://pmmementos.gov.in between September 17 and October 7, 2021.

Proceeds from the e-auction will go to the Namami Gange Mission aimed at conserving and rejuvenating the Ganga, a statement said.
