Traditional 'Barpujo' performed at East Bengal club on Bengali New Year

Several former players attend ceremony, sweets and lunch organised for supporters and fans

Keeping in line with the tradition, East Bengal Club on Friday performed Barpujo at the club premises on the first day of the Bengali year.

The rituals started at around 7.50 am and was attended by several club officials including Secretary Rupak Saha, Football Secretary Saikat Ganguly, Field Secretary Saroj Bhattacharya, Accountant Sadananda Mukherjee, Executive Committee Member Debabrata Sarkar etc.

The occasion was graced by several former footballers who had brought the club laurels including Prashanta Banerjee, Bhaskar Ganguly, Ranjit Mukherjee, Bikash Panji, Mihir Basu, Tarun Dey, Alok Mukherjee, Biswajit Bhattacharya, Sumit Mukherjee, Tushar Rakshit, Gautam Ghosh, Shankarlal Chakraborty, Bijan Chakraborty, Amit Das, Ranjan Chowdhury, Sadiq, Chanchal Bhattacharya, Gopal Das, Rahim Nabi, Falguni Dutt, Mehtab Hossain, Swapan Bose, Devjit Ghosh, Surya Bikash Chakraborty, Madhab Das, former cricketer Arup Bhattacharya and many more.

Junior footballers of the East Bengal Football School were also present along with hundreds of members and supporters. There was great excitement among the red-and-yellow supporters surrounding 'Barpujo'.

At the end of the Barpujo ceremony, the club flag was hoisted by the former players and the club coaches.

Like every year, sweets were distributed among members and supporters present on the auspicious occasion apart from luncheon facility for the ones who graced the event.
