James Anderson registers for IPL 2025 mega auction at base price of Rs 1.25 crore

England pacer James Anderson, who has not played a T20 since 2014, has been registered for the IPL 2025 mega auction at a base price of 1.25 crore.

Anderson retired from international cricket this English summer and took up the role of bowling coach with the senior national team.

The long list of players includes one from Italy, Thomas Draca, who played from Brampton in the Global T20 Canada. Draca, 24, was more recently picked by MI Emirates for the upcoming season of the ILT20 in the UAE.

Ben Stokes, however, is missing from the list of 1574 players who have registered for the mega auction to be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.

The IPL will further prune the list after receiving inputs from the franchises.

The mega auction will clash with the opening Test in the Border-GavaskarTrophy on India’s tour of Australia. The Perth Test begins on November 22 and as a result, the auction will be held on the third and fourth days of the match.

This will be outgoing secretary Jay Shah’s last major event at the BCCI before taking over as ICC chairman from December 1.

Among the top Indian players who were not retained, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal are listed at the maximum base price of 2 crore.

Mohammed Shami, who hasn’t played any cricket since the 2023 ODI World Cup final, has also been listed in the same price category.

The other Indians with a base price of 2 crore are Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, T. Natarajan, Devdutt Padikkal, Krunal Pandya, Harshal Patel and Umesh Yadav.

Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan have a base price of75 lakh.

IPL’s most expensive player Mitchell Starc, acquired by KKR for 24.5 crore in 2024, is back in the auction pool at a base price of 2 crore.

Each team has a total purse of 120 crore but following the retentions, Punjab Kings have the biggest purse left (110.5 crore) followed by RCB (83 crore), Delhi Capitals (73 crore), Gujarat Titans (69 crore), LSG(69 crore) CSK (55 crore), KKR (51 crore), MI (45 crore), SRH (45 crore)and RR (41 crore).
