Two Ulfa (Independent) cadres were caught at Nampong in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday. Police sources said acting on inputs that the Ulfa cadres had sneaked inside Chang-lang district from Myanmar, the district police, along with a team of 19 Assam Rifles and 171 CRPF, launched a joint operation in of Longvi village and arrested them.

MLA quarantined

Congress MLA A.K. Rasid Alom from East Goalpara constituency in Assam is under home quarantine from Saturday. Alom had travelled to New Delhi on March 16 and returned the same day. On Saturday, he voluntarily called the local health department officials for a Covid-19 check-up. A health official team collected his swab and sent it to Guwahati for testing.

Directive

The district administration on Saturday asked the supervisors of ICDS projects to upload the data on POSHAN Abhiyaan by Monday.

Relief material

The Assam Public Works, with the help of social worker Rajen Chandra Medhi, distributed relief to 800 families on Saturday.

Contribution

The Guwahati-based Beltola Bohagi Utsav Samiti on Saturday donated Rs 5 lakh to Assam Arogya Nidhi Fund to fight Covid-19, its general secretary Sanjay Goswami said.

Interim relief

The Assam panchayat and rural development department will extend an interim relief of Rs 1,000 to each economically backward family in the rural areas of the state. The beneficiaries will include those families who are not covered under the Food Security Act. Village panchayat secretaries will select the families.

Charge

Subdivisional officer (sadar)-cum-executive officer, Lala Municipal Board, Jyotirmoy Daimary took charge of the urban body following the expiry of its five-year term.

Storm aid

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday visited the storm-ravaged spots on Friday. He provided financial assistance as initial relief to the people of those areas. He said the owners of the 172 houses which were partially damaged in West Tripura district would get Rs 5,200 each in first installment within three days in their bank accounts. The 124 families which suffered crop loss will get Rs 1,100 (per kani) each.

Donation

The Diocese of Dibrugarh has donated Rs 1,50,000 on behalf of the Catholic Christian community of Upper Assam to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to fight Covid-19.

The Diocese of Dibrugarh, headquartered at Bishop’s House in Dibrugarh, transferred the donation amount through NEFT from Federal Bank here, Fr Philip Purty, the financial administrator of the Diocese, said.

The Diocese of Dibrugarh made an appeal to all other institutions, organisations and establishments to donate.
