Rakhi Purnima Dasgupta, the owner of iconic Bengali restaurant Kewpie’s in Kolkata, passed away on December 24, 2023. She succumbed to a heart attack in the early hours of the morning. She was 66.
“She complained of chest pain last night and was taken to the hospital. She passed away after two heart attacks,” said a close friend of Dasgupta from her school days.
The legacy of Kewpie’s dates back to 1998 when Pratik Kumar Dasgupta, along with his daughters Rakhi and Pia, began the restaurant in a humble 12-seater setup within the garage of their century-old house on Elgin Lane. Today, the 50-seater establishment stands as a beloved icon in the city, renowned for its authentic Bengali cuisine.
