Jamshedpur: Four members of a family were killed and two others injured as the car they were travelling in was rammed into a stationary container at Chandil on NH-33 in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district about 25 km away from here in the early morning on Friday. Those killed include two middle-aged women and a 14-year-old girl. A 45-year-old man who was on the driving seat of the car was also killed.

The injured were first taken to MGM medical college hospital and later shifted to Tata Main Hospital where their condition is said to be serious. The mishap took place along Nargadih village about 200 metres away from the Chandil roundabout at about 4 am. According to sources, the victims were coming Hazaribagh to Jamshedpur for attending a "Griha Pravesh" ceremony here on Friday.

OC, Chandil thana, SS Das said the stationary container the car rammed into had a breakdown and was on the road side.

According to the police, the identity of the mishap victims could not be ascertained as the two surviving injured are not in a condition to speak. "The identity of the mishap victims will be known after the two surviving injured return to their sense or any relative of them turns up at the hospital, " said the police officer, adding that they have seized the vehicles from the scene of mishap.

Dhanbad: Altogether three Septuagenarian Coal town Congressmen who spent more than 40 years of their life serving in the historic office of Congress situated at Luby Cirular road of Dhanbad today launched a campaign to draw the attention of present top leadership of the party towards the pathetic condition of the office lying in shambles.

The Congress old timers including, Prakash Sharma of Manbad, Jharia; Ravindra Singh of Jealgora and Anil Pandey of Housing Colony, Dhanbad who congregated at the historic party office building lying closed since 2011 put up a poster at the main gate of office bearing slogan, Ham sharminda hain, sharmida hain, rajya me Congress ki bhi sarkar hai aur ek dashak se Dhanbad Jila Congress karyalay me tala band hai (we are ashamed, ashamed as the state has also Congress government but the district Congress office in lying locked for a decade).

The protestors also issued an open letter demanding revival and reopening of Congress office, the copies of which have also been handed over to Brajendra Prasad Singh, district President of the party and Mannan Mullick, former district president.

The letter addressed to Banna Gupata, in charge minister of party for the district who is scheduled to visit, Dhanbad on February 14 said, “The closed district office of Congress is witness to a number of significant incidents of the party, including the visit to the office by former Prime Ministers, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi”

“The office also witnessed significant events related to the development of state” reads the lette and added added that but Congressman like us who are now without any post feel concerned due to development of cracks in the office building and growth of bushes all around the office.

“Party men like us who have spent more than 40 years of life in office are concerned of losing the office as we earlier lost one of our office after similar developments” further reads the letter and added that they are getting fed up only with the repeated doses of assurances and no work on the ground.

“The minister during his visit to the district last month assured that the office will be opened on February 6 but we now wanted to ask the office is still lying locked” further reads the letter signed by trio, including Anil Pandey, Ravindra Singh and Prakash Sharma.

Notably altogether 84 institutions situated on Dhanbad district board land like district Congress office, BSS Women's College, IMA office, District Football Association officer, Union Club were closed in 2011 order issued by High court order on the writ petition filed by one Suresh for their commercial use despite being provided on subsidized rate for use for non commercial purposes.

70 shopkeepers of Janta market protest eviction notice

Dhanbad: Altogether 70 shop keepers of Janta Market situated on the Jharkhand housing board land in Sardar Patel Colony of Dhanbad are protesting against the recent eviction notices served against them.

The protestors charged the Jharkhand Housing board administration of ditching them despite giving assurances to them to regularize their units and threatened to immolate themselves tomorrow if the board goes ahead with its plan to evacuate the market tomorrow.

Talking to the media on Friday, Govind Krishna Verma, one of the protesting shopkeeper who has also received the eviction notice said, “The abrupt decision of the Jharkhand Housing Board to initiate eviction drive by serving short term notice in beyond any comprehension and it will throw us on the road without any source of livelihood..

“After the Jharkhand Housing Board won a case in the high court with regard to ownership of the market against some private parties three year ago we reached the Jharkhand Housing Board office in Ranchi and presented our case,” said Verma.

“The authorities on board then assured us to help and provided us some forms to submit for regularizing our shops after fixing and realizing rents” said Verma and added that all shop keepers submitted the forms with all relevant documents but meanwhile started and the communication stopped.

“Now, suddenly we found eviction notices pasted outside the market on February 9 instructing us to vacate the shops immediately, otherwise eviction would be carried out, tomorrow,” Verma said adding they met the Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha besides the district administration officials on the issue and will also visit the Jharkhand Housing Board office in Ranchi with the relevant documents, including the copies of forms submitted by them.
