Four killed as car overturns after hitting road divider in Jharkhand

It occurred when the victims were going to Urmal village after attending a wedding ceremony in Ramgarh area

Four persons were killed, three of them on the spot and six others injured as the pick-up van they were travelling in overturned at Chilgu on NH-33 under Chandil thana area about in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district about 30 kms away from here early on Thursday morning.

The victims who were residents of Urmal in Chadil were in a 'baraat' party and were returning from marriage ceremony in Ramgarh at about 4 am when the mishap took place.

The van which was at a breakneck speed aboard about a dozen men hit a divider near a bridge at Chilgu causing it to overturn.

As soon as the mishap took place local residents followed by a police party came to the spot and rescued the victims. During the rescue operation, three of the passengers were found dead and seven others injured, four of them seriously.

The police rushed all the seven injured to MGM medical college hospital, where one of the victims succumbed to his injury.

Getting the information about the mishap, kins of those injured reached at the MGM medical college hospital. JMM legislator from legislator, Sabita Mahto under whose jurisdiction Chilgu falls had also rushed to the medical college hospital later on for looking after the treatment of the injured.

The legislator took stock of the injured and made the authority of the medical college hospital to refer three seriously-injured victims to RIMS for better treatment.

OC, Chandil thana, SS Das said the mishap took place as the driver of the pick-up van had lost control over the vehicle while it was speeding towards Urmal.

"From the preliminary investigation we gathered that the driver of the vehicle might have lost control over the speeding vehicle due to over exhaustion and lack of sleep. The driver who is suspected to be among the dead had mived around Chandil and Ichagarh campaigning for ensuing Panchayat elections during the day and had ventured out taking the 'baraaties' to Rangarh in the night. We are yet to ascertain whether he was under the influence of liquor also, " said Das while talking to The Telegraph Online.

The OC confirmed that three of injured have been referred to RIMS, adding that the rest of the injured are being shifted to Tata Main Hospital from the MGM medical college hospital for better treatment.
