Tata Steel employee Ramesh Sinha, 58, drowned in rain-fed Bokaro river on Saturday evening while his son-in-law Satyajit Sinha had a miraculous escape. The incident took place in West Bokaro of Ramgarh district, some 50kms from district headquarters. Police stopped vehicles since morning after heavy rain flooded the area, but a defiant Ramesh ignored security guards and asked Satyajitt to steer their car on the flooded West Bokaro-Ramgarh Road by the Chilka pool. The gushing water washed away the car (JH01/BQ-8067). Ramesh’s body was found later. Satyajit was found unconscious. As the news of Ramesh’s death reached his wife Mridula, she suffered a heart attack.

Bike theft cuffs

Bokaro: A special task force formed by the city police and led by led by town deputy superintendent of police Gyan Ranjan arrested three people, including two minors, on Saturday for stealing motorcycles. Two stolen bikes were also recovered from them.

Found hanging

Bokaro: The body of a 52-year-old employee of CCL was found hanging in a forest area near Bokaro Thermal on Friday evening. Police said the body was decomposed and it appeared that the man had died almost a week ago. The cops suspect it to be a case of suicide but are waiting for the autopsy report.

Student harms self

Jamshedpur: A Class VII student of Ramakrishna Mission Lady Indra Singh English High School in Telco injured himself with a broken piece of glass after the principal allegedly threatened to issue a transfer certificate because of indiscipline.

The incident occurred in the presence of the boy’s parents, teachers and the principal. The boy was immediately rushed to Telco Hospital. No police complaint had been filed at the time of going to press.

Ranchi: A.K. Srivastava, former dean of students welfare at Birsa Agriculture University, Ranchi, took over as the vice-chancellor of RKDF University here on Saturday.

Archery meet

Jamshedpur: The state archery championship scheduled to be held in Jamshedpur from March 27 to 31 has been postponed due to the novel coronavirus scare. Jharkhand Archery Association secretary Purnima Mahto said fresh dates will be announced later.

Theft cuffs

Jamshedpur: Police on Saturday arrested two youths for allegedly stealing from a house at Shanti Nagar under Adityapur police station area on Friday night. The cops recovered from Roshan Sarkar and Suman Khandayat an LCD TV, an induction stove and a refrigerator.

Bike thieves

Jamshedpur: Police arrested four youths, Rahul Lohar, Shiva Singh, Ashok Kumar Chaudhury and Pramod Gorai, on Saturday for stealing a bike from a house in Adityapur. The stolen bike was recovered.
