East Zone Masters T20 cricket tournament in city from May 6 to 8

Former Ranji Trophy stars will feature in the tournament

Veteran willow-holders have an opportunity to relive the past when they compete in the inaugural Over-40s East Zone Masters T20 cricket tournament to be held at the landmark Keenan Stadium here from May 6 to 8.

The tournament is being organised by Jamshedpur Veteran Sports Club (JVSC) under the banner of the Veteran Cricket India (VCI) and has the support of Tata Steel sports department, Tata Steel Foundation, JAMIPOL and Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA).

The motive of the event is to once again bring back the cricketers to the ground with a purpose “To be Fit & Interact with old old friends."

Ex Ranji Trophy players of Bihar, Jharkhand and Bengal are part of the tournament. Former first class cricketers, including Subhash Chatterjee, Moinak Sen Gupta, Sanjiv Gupta, Santosh Tiwari and Avinash Kumar along with ex-district and university players are part of the event.

The six participating comprise Jamshedpur Veterans, Dhanbad Diamonds, Giridih Dynamite, PTMPL(Asansol), Chaibasa Challengers
and Kalinga Warriors(Odisha).

"Together we can do it and life once again begins after 40,"remarked Avinash Kumar, former Bihar Ranji Trophy skipper.

He added preparations were complete and they were looking forward to efficient conduct of the tournament. "We all are happy to once again meet old friends after years and relive the moments of yesteryears. The tournament is a platform for veteran cricketers to mingle with each other and share memories," Kumar, senior manager at Tata Steel sports wing, said.

Formed in 2011, JVSC hosts local-level basketball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton tournaments for the former sportspersons
