Cops are registering cases against lockdown violators in the state capital.
Superintendent of police Rishav Kumar Jha told The Telegraph on Friday that 38 cases have been registered police officials across the city have been told to be strict with those roaming on the roads unnecessarily. “The FIRs were registered during the last three days. Yesterday (Thursday), three FIRs were registered,” Jha said when asked what action the cops are taking lockdown violators.
Argora police station officer in-charge (OC) Binod Kumar said he had registered one FIR.
“In case of violation of the lockdown, the FIR is registered under sections 188, 269 and 270 of the IPC. Section 188 is imposed when someone violates direction of government officials and section 269 and 270 are for when someone violates the quarantine rule and causes damage to the society by their careless activity. There is provision of jail for under Section 188 and two year for violation of 269 and 270,” OC Kumar said.
“I registered an FIR against two brothers who had come to the city from New Delhi and were asked to remain under home quarantine but were out on the street.”
Asked about the status of the accused, OC Kumar said: “The sections are bailable and thus they were not arrested. They were allowed to go home to Kunj Vihar with a strict direction to not violate the quarantine rule again. But they will have to face trial.”
A police official in Namkum said the cops were taking all measures possible to keep people at home.
“Earlier we used to deal with the cases of murder, abduction, theft, snatching. Nowadays we are dealing with violations of quarantine and lockdown,” the official said, requesting anonymity. “Sometimes we also have to rush when someone informs about hoarding of essential commodities.”
He added: “Earlier the police used to rub oil on their sticks, now we rub sanitizer on hands.”
