The Congress on Tuesday lamented that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was uninterested in the real concerns of the masses and requested him to move from the “agenda of divisiveness” to the “agenda of development”.

Congress communications chief Randeep Surjewala said at a news conference: “The Modi government’s two gifts to the nation are unemployment and high prices of essential commodities. India is on the cusp of an unprecedented food price inflation. The poor can’t buy basic necessities....”

Speaking about the economic crisis, joblessness and social unrest, he said: “In this entire atmosphere, the only magic wand that Modiji has is division and hatred, and when any individual — a company executive or a thinker or a writer, or a policy analyst — ever makes a point that the CAA, NRC and NPR are inherently divisive and diversionary in order to draw attention away from rampant food inflation, from unprecedented joblessness, the only answer is to declare such people anti-national.”
