Lieutenant-general Upendra Dwivedi to take over as new army vice-chief on February 15

Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa, the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy

Lieutenant-general Upendra Dwivedi, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, will take over as the new army vice-chief on February 15.

The army’s current vice-chief, Lieutenant-general M.V. Suchindra Kumar, will replace him in the Uddhampur-based Northern Command.

Lieutenant-general Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa, the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy. He was commissioned into the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regiment and has served across a wide spectrum of terrain and operational profiles.

He commanded his battalion in the Kashmir Valley, the Assam Rifles Sector along the Indo-Myanmar Border, and the Inspectorate General Assam Rifles (IGAR, East). He had also served as a staff officer in an armoured brigade, Directorate General of Military Operations, Military Secretary Branch and at Divisional and Corps Headquarters.
