The Election Commission will ferry disabled persons and those who accompany them from their homes to polling booths and back, reports our special correspondent.

In a letter to chief electoral officers of all states and union territories on September 27, poll panel principal secretary Sumit Mukherjee has said government vehicles must be used for every polling booth on voting day to ferry the people.

A transportation nodal officer must also be appointed for every district, and a list of all disabled voters in every polling booth has to be prepared, the letter said.

The order is based on the Strategic Framework on Accessible Elections framed after a national consultation, here, in July.
