Violence broke out in Andhra Pradesh’s Amalapuram on Tuesday when police lathi-charged people protesting against the proposed renaming of the newly created Konaseema district as B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.

While the ruling party blamed unnamed forces behind the arson, all Opposition parties hit out at the Jagan Mohan Reddy government over its “gross failure” in controlling the situation.

Home minister Taneti Vanitha said the protesters torched a school bus and around 20 cops were injured in stone pelting by the mob.

Prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144 have been clamped in Amalapuram.
