Queen Elizabeth II and her love affair with India

Queen Elizabeth II broke a number of records during her 70 years on the throne. In addition to being the oldest British monarch, she was the longest-reigning queen ever. Her rule lasted for 70 years 214 days (February 6, 1952 - September 8, 2022). Not only was she on the throne the longest but she also sent the most letters, met with the most prime ministers and had the longest marriage. In 1961, the Queen and her husband, the late Prince Phillip Duke of Edinburgh, toured Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata then Bombay, Madras, and Calcutta and also visited the Taj Mahal in Agra and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat in New Delhi. Over the years, the Queen has also hosted three Indian presidents Dr S Radhakrishnan in 1963, R. Venkataraman in 1990 and Pratibha Patil in 2009. Here are a few glimpses of the Queen with some Indian personalities
