A section of Swifties lashed out at American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift after receiving her newly released album, The Life of a Showgirl CDs, also signed by her fiancé, Travis Kelce.
What was supposed to be a limited-edition gift for Swift’s most dedicated supporters became controversial when fans spotted a second signature next to Taylor’s.
Netizens traced the unknown autograph to Kelce, prompting many to ask why the Kansas City Chiefs player’s name was on an album that reflects Taylor’s intimate artistic expression.
“We are not f*** fans of your boyfriend, we are fans of YOU, and YOU are making the music and the money, but you're letting him into your career bc of your f***** rose colored glasses,” one fan wrote on X.
Another fan seconded, saying, “People don’t purchase signed things for a signature from the artist’s fiancé.”
The criticism didn’t stop there. This is literally just sooo weird like… that’s YOUR art, why would you think your fans would want your boyfriend’s signature,” reads another comment.
Despite the backlash, Taylor Swift made history with her 15th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with The Life of a Showgirl, breaking her tie with Drake and Jay-Z for the most No. 1 albums among solo artists. She now trails only The Beatles, who have 19 No. 1 albums.
Swift recently dropped her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, which comprises 12 tracks including Opalite, Wood, Elizabeth Taylor and Actually Romantic.
Though the album received rave reviews, a section of fans criticised the 35-year-old singer for purportedly using AI-generated graphics for the album’s promotional videos.
However, the American singer’s new concert-style film, The Official Release Party of a Show Girl, which serves as a companion to The Life of a Showgirl, debuted at No. 1 at the US box office, minting USD 33 million in North America.
The film was screened across all 540 AMC theatres in the US for three days, concluding on Sunday, and also played in select theatres in Mexico, Canada, and Europe.
Swift dropped the music video for The Fate of Ophelia recently. She also announced eight bonus acoustic version tracks.
