India’s Oscar wins: Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Victor Banerjee congratulate RRR and The Elephant Whisperers

Congratulatory messages continue to pour in for India’s Oscar-winning films — RRR and The Elephant Whisperers — with Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Padma Bhushan-awardee Victor Banerjee heaping praises on the makers of the two films.

“WE WIN ! WE WIN TWO ! WE WIN FOR COUNTRY AND PEOPLE ! WE WIN !! भारत का झंडा गाड़ दिया, विदेश में ! (The flag of India has been hoisted abroad),” wrote Bachchan in a tweet on Tuesday.

The 80-year-old also wrote a blog on India’s Oscar wins, calling it a recognition long overdue. “We won .. a recognition long overdue .. accepting the reward in the eyes of the beholder .. he that Maketh ; Delivereth .. and deliver he did .. eventually ..”

RRR song Naatu Naatu bagged the Best Original Song trophy, while The Elephant Whisperers won in the Best Documentary Short category at the 95th Academy Awards, held at the Dolby Theatres in Los Angeles on Monday (IST).

Shah Rukh sent a “big hug” to The Elephant Whisperers producer Guneet Monga and director Kartiki Gonsalves on the win. The Pathaan star also thanked RRR maker S.S. Rajamouli and actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR for showing the way to make it big.

“Big hug to @guneetm & @EarthSpectrum for Elephant Whisperers. And @mmkeeravaani #ChandraBose ji @ssrajamouli @AlwaysRamCharan @tarak9999 thank u for showing us all, the way to do it. Both Oscars truly inspirational,” he wrote.

Shah Rukh’s tweet, with over one million views, garnered comments from fans as well as celebrities. Responding to the tweet, Monga wrote, “I derive ALL my inspiration from you Shah Rukh sir. Hope to get a hug in person soon ❤️🐘❤️🐘❤️,” wrote Monga.

“Thank youuuu sirrrrrrr 🥳🥳🥳🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻,” Rajamouli commented on Shah Rukh’s tweet.

Victor Banerjee, who played Dr Aziz in David Lean’s Oscar-winning film A Passage to India (1984), was equally ecstatic.

“I am Naatu Naatu over heels for our first ever real Oscar achievement. Not shared, not borrowed! What a fantastic moment in our lives presenting the unique talents we have in India. The greatest moment in my film career. My country is breaking every genre of music known to the world,” he said.

This year has been India’s first Oscar win since 2019, when Period. End of Sentence. won the Oscar for Best Documentary (Short Subject).
