FX’s drama series Shogun created history by bagging 18 awards, the most number of wins for a single season of a show, at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday morning (IST).

Shogun stole the spotlight at the awards ceremony by winning in the outstanding drama category. Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai took home lead actor and actress accolades, respectively, while Frederick E.O. Toye bagged the award for best director.

Having already secured 14 Creative Arts Emmys the previous weekend, the total tally for Shogun stood at 18 Emmys.

Much like last year, Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach of The Bear repeated their wins, taking home lead actor and supporting actor awards in the comedy category. Meanwhile, their co-star Liza Colón-Zayas secured her first Emmy for supporting actress. Jean Smart (Hacks) was crowned lead actress in a comedy.

The Bear also shattered its own record from the previous year. After winning 10 Emmys for a single season last time, the show took home 11 awards on Sunday, including best directing for Christopher Storer.

In a stunning twist, however, HBO’s Hacks triumphed over The Bear to claim the title of outstanding comedy.

Netflix’s Baby Reindeer also had a standout evening, winning an award for the best outstanding limited series. The show’s creator Richard Gadd took home the trophies for lead actor and writing, while co-star Jessica Gunning, who portrayed his stalker Martha on the show, claimed the supporting actress prize.

HBO’s True Detective: Night Country saw Jodie Foster secure her first-ever Emmy award for her lead role in the series, while Elizabeth Debicki bagged the award for best supporting actress in a drama series for The Crown.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards was hosted by father-and-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, best known for their work on the hit show Schitt’s Creek. Here is the list of winners at the 76th Emmys.
