Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been roasted in the latest episode of American animated satire series South Park, sparking debates on social media and rumours about the Dukes and Duchess of Sussex planning to take legal action against the alleged mocking of the couple.

In a direct reference to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Episode 2 of the 26th season of the show, titled The Worldwide Privacy Tour, features a red-headed prince from Canada and his wife going on a world tour to promote the former’s book, ‘Waaagh’, hinting at Prince Harry’s controversial memoir Spare. The 22-minute-long episode, which aired last week, takes a jab at their demands for privacy and other events reported in the past few years.

Soon after the episode was released, clips from it went viral on social media. It was reported that the royal couple were ‘upset’ and ‘annoyed’ by the roast and were considering taking legal action against the show.

However, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex dismissed the rumours during an interview with People magazine. The spokesperson said, “It’s all frankly nonsense. Totally baseless, boring reports.”

Prince Harry and Meghan — an American actress who featured in the popular TV show Suits — got married on May 19, 2018, and have two children, Archie and Lilibet. In January 2020, the couple stepped down as working royals and later settled in the US.

Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park first premiered on Comedy Central in 1997 and has often featured characters who bear a resemblance to famous faces. Each episode of the series begins with a disclaimer saying that all its characters are fictional.

Prince Harry’s memoir Spare outlines his personal grievances and bitterness in the Royal Family, especially between him and his brother Prince Williams and father King Charles III.
