Vibrant, trendy florals and smart silhouettes define the spring-summer ’21 collection, Street Chic by Vian, a brainchild of designer Sayantan Sarkar and Olivia Sinha Roy. The brand that caters to contemporary casuals and streetwear, conceptualised the seasonal collection based on the idea of street to clubwear. Easy to wear, incorporating various style elements in the outfits, the collection brings together organzas and cottons to create some summer-fresh looks.
Smart and sassy, this hot pink organza blouse with an elaborate ruffled neckline and puffed sleeves, paired with warm grey floral-printed wrap-around trousers, stood out against the striking background. Bold hot pink lips completed this look. “We made a subdued reference to the colour hot pink and we had selected the backdrop of pop-colour walls to justify the colour combination of the character that I wanted to bring out for this picture,” said Sayantan.
The white sheer organza jacket top with a wrap-around belt and lapel collar, was teamed with a pair of mustard floral-printed cotton straight pants, which added a dash of bright colour to the ensemble. “The pant is double layered with flaps and adds drama with its print on cotton,” said Sayantan.
Feminine and funky, the pale yellow organza shirt with a V-shaped pintuck structured yoke and ruffled shoulders, was paired with double-layered, floral-printed pista green cotton pants. The hair was tied into a neat summer bun. Emphasis was on the eye make-up, using pop shades like teal, yellow and green, and nude lip gloss. “The lower is styled like a layer of skirt on the pants. We shot against the bougainvillea plant, which was mostly green, to bring out the yellow contrast of the top,” said Sayantan.
Chic and classy, the white ruffled-yoke, full-sleeve organza shirt was paired with a cotton floral-printed black-and-amber skirt. The hair was parted on one side with waves and the face was left dewy with nude eyes, golden shimmer and a contrast pop orange colour on the lips. “There is an essence of the street and the garment was looking very young because of the sheer and the floral print. There is a feminine yet sensual appeal in the entire outfit. That was the contradiction with the background that we selected. The look was inspired from a very boho concept. It is a gypsy look,” said Sayantan.
A bright and beautiful amalgamation of the tranquil aqua and striking maroon, the organza top was styled with a bow collar and puff sleeve and was worn with a fitted trouser in a wrap-around skirt style. “The trouser has a side extension which is tied up for a wrap-around skirt kind of a look. The grungy frame adds elements to the look,” said Sayantan.

As we wanted to bring together the street style and commercially available fabric into the high fashion arena, making a collection on the street-to-club concept, we kept the make-up vibrant with a lot of pop colours — Olivia Sinha Roy, make-up artist

Vian brings to you a collection categorised as ‘street chic’ where commercial street fabrics, prints and elements of general streetwear are teamed together and styled to fit straight into the fashion runways. These silhouettes are essentials for the upcoming summer wardrobe of every fashion-loving woman. The concept behind this collection is streetwear that you carry on to the club. Starting with the forecast for 2021, where sheer, floral and tropicals are going around so strongly, we conceptualised this collection around this fashion statement. We collected the fabrics from commercial shops and have used them in silhouettes that are Oriental inspired and have a Japanese influence. In our tops, the drama is around the sleeves and the collars. When you are working with organza, it is meant to be feminine and fluid, but this time we used organza to give the summer feel. We reimagined it as a rebellious silhouette. We didn’t want to portray it solely as a dainty, feminine silhouette. Sensuality, femininity, rebellious, powerful dressing is the story we tried to weave with this collection and have used the exaggerated collars, ruffles and fun sleeves to create a sense of domination and drama — Sayantan Sarkar

Since the collection is based on the concept of street-to-club wear and the tops have a lot of styling elements, we kept the looks very simple, minimal and easy to carry with pumps and stilettos, and teamed it with minimal accessories like pearl studs and clips on the hair. The frames and poses reflect the sensual aspect of the collection. We chose the specific backdrops to create the street aura. We have used some bright colours in the simple and chic looks to make it more fun for summer. The silhouettes are easy-breezy, so the looks are simple and fun — Anupam Chatterjee
