Calcutta: The champion RCTC horse, Trafalgar — a 5/2 favourite to win the monsoon edition of the 2,000m Calcutta Derby, on Sunday — left an equally fancied Bangalore
challenger, Tenno Sho, panting for breath on his way to pocketing the winner’s purse of about Rs 27 lakh.
In the process of his three-length victory, Trafalgar —trained by James McKeown, and ridden by Sandesh Akhade — also avenged his Colts Stakes defeat, suffered at the hands of trainer Neil Darashah’s horse, Tenno Sho.
All was, however, not well with Tenno Sho, who collaps-ed about 150m after the finishing line. The horse was immediately attended by the RCTC’s veterinary team, and he is learnt to be out of danger now.
