Calcutta: The southern race clubs, in Banagalore and Hyderabad, on Wednesday, have finally received the much-awaited glanders-free certificates from the National Research Centre on Equines, the country’s nodal authority for testing and managing the dreaded zoonotic disease.
After three tense months of uncertainty, rigorous surveillance and exhaustive testing paved the way for complete clearance. The certificates also lifted a heavy cloud that had hung over the sport.
The celebrations gathered momentum with the earlier green signal granted to the Hyderabad Race Club (HRC), which had borne the brunt of the outbreak. With both southern powerhouses now officially declared glanders-free, the countdown to the resumption of racing has begun — a thrilling prospect for owners, professionals, and racing buffs alike.
