As the Karnataka PUC results were announced, and the stories of academic brilliance and dogged determination streamed in, there also emerged stories of profound resilience and empathy.

A remarkable story of defying the odds and perseverance is that of Dilshad Ahmed, a student of Deeksha, Indiranagar who scored 98% in his PU2 examinations. Dilshad is a beneficiary of the Vidyadaan, a flagship initiative scholarship for meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He is a remarkable example of what can be achieved when merit is incentivised with means. The Telegraph Online Edugraph recently got into a candid conversation with the student to know more about his strategies and preparation to excel in the examination.

  1. How did you manage to score such a remarkable score in the PU2 Exams?

Dilshad: Once I entered standard 11, I knew it was crucial to give my studies my undivided attention. I made sure to attend each class with full concentration and take notes diligently. After the classes ended, I would revise the topics covered that day to ensure I had a clear understanding. To stay on top of my coursework, I completed all the homework given by the teachers on the same day and reviewed my notes again before going to bed. This approach helped me retain the information better and be better prepared for the exams.

2. How did you divide your time between subjects?

Dilshad: Time management played a crucial role in my academic success. While preparing for my PU 2 exams, I realised the importance of dividing my time efficiently. I prioritise my weaker subjects and dedicated more time to them while also ensuring that I gave equal importance to all other subjects. I began by tackling the toughest subjects first, followed by the easier ones, and then dedicated two days to language subjects. Thanks to my teachers and parents' unwavering support and guidance, I was able to manage my time effectively and achieve my academic goals.

3. Throw some light on your background and what difficulties and problems did you face while achieving this score?

Dilshad: Despite the financial difficulties my family faced, I was determined to continue my studies and make my parents proud. With my father's irregular income as a tea seller and food delivery agent, and my mother being a housewife with no formal education, we struggled to afford my education after 9th standard. However, during my 10th standard, I discovered the VidyaDaan Scholarships provided by Deeksha, which were a blessing in disguise. I applied for the scholarship and was grateful to be selected for it, as it gave me the opportunity to continue my studies without worrying about the financial burden on my family.

4. Besides your own hard work, whom do you credit for your achievement?

Dilshad: The assistance provided by the teachers at Deeksha was crucial to my success. Financial constraints made it difficult for my family to afford the necessary study materials, including the costly NCERT books. But Deeksha came to our rescue by providing me with all the resources I needed. I owe my success not only to my dedication and hard work but also to the constant support of my teachers and parents.

5. What according to you is the best strategy for achieving this score?

Dilshad: With the PU 2 exams drawing near, I made a plan to solve the previous year’s question papers every alternate day. If I was unable to answer any question from the PYQ, I would focus more on those topics. I understood the importance of presenting our answer sheet correctly and having clear handwriting. So, I practiced my handwriting during my preparatory exams and paid extra attention to the presentation of my answers.

Topping exams comes in with a lot of determination and consistency to not give up. The Telegraph Online Edugraph wishes Dilshad all the very best for his future endeavors.
