Revision and rest are essential to stay focused for the all-India exams

With a little more than one and a half months left before Joint Entrance Examination (Mains) 2022, it’s time to revise your lessons and mentally prepare yourself for the gruelling all-India exams.

Edugraph caught up with Anshul Singhal, a top IIT-JEE educator at Unacademy. The IIT Mumbai alum played a key role in the success of several All India toppers of JEE Advanced, JEE Mains and Birla Institute of Science and Technology (BITSAT) entrance exams.

Here are the educator’s tips offered for JEE:

Have a realistic planner

Have a realistic revision planner instead of going for something beyond your capacity. Dedicate proper time to each topic to ensure that it is covered diligently. However, concentrating on one topic does not mean that you should take away time from the others.

Revise the formula sheet

Some of the easy point-scoring questions will be formula-based in the June 21-29 exams. If you are well versed in formulas and concepts, you can easily score marks in these questions, which can make a vital difference. As a part of your last-moment revision, go over the formula and concept sheet multiple times.

Practise with mock tests

You need to write at least three to five mock tests before the exams. During these mock tests proper examination conditions should be emulated. Examination strategies like time management and not attempting lengthy questions also need to be practised while writing the tests.

Go through previous years’ question papers

With time being limited, your revision should focus on important questions. Previous years’ questions offer a good idea of the type of questions and concepts that you may face in the exams. Consulting standard books and solving previous years’ questions offer the best way to cover each topic.

Do not start new chapters

Covering all the topics may not be possible before the exams. If you have skipped any chapter or topic, it is best to avoid touching it during the revision phase. Your revision time should be used efficiently to master the topics that you are already familiar with. Leaving unfamiliar topics is better than wasting time on them in the last few weeks.

Narrow down resources

The internet is a vast treasure house of JEE-related content. However, such online resources may become overwhelming for last-minute preparation — they might confuse you. It is best to narrow down quality resources for revision.

Avoid overworking

Do not sacrifice sleep time for revision time. Giving the brain rest goes hand in hand with revision. Avoid sleeping late or staying up at night to study. At the same time, breaks during revision time increase the capacity to retain the revised content.

Synchronise sleep cycle

It is not only necessary to rest but also important to focus on getting sleep at the right time. In the last few weeks, you need to stay active during the scheduled exam time and get sufficient sleep at night. This way your body and mind are less likely to feel lethargic during the exams.

Have a healthy diet

Staying healthy during the last few days is of utmost importance. It helps you to concentrate more during revision. Eating a healthy diet reduces the likelihood of any health issues. Focus on staying healthy is as important as the focus on revision.

Erase self-doubt

Being confident is crucial when you are about to write JEE or any competitive exam. A positive mindset free of self-doubt leaves the student focused on the exam and nothing else. Have faith in the hard work that has been put into the preparation and try to not overthink when answering the questions.
