ICSE 2023 Commercial Application Paper Format

Full Marks - 100 (Multiple Choice Questions: 20 marks; Objective and subjective questions: 80 marks)

It is a fully theoretical paper with no numericals.

As per the revised syllabus and ICSE Commercial Application paper(2023), released by council, the following structure has been provided:

Section A

Question 1 (20 marks)

  • 20 Multiple choice questions
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Meaning/function/full form

Question 2 and Question 3 (10 + 10 marks)

  • 2 marks questions consisting of answer briefly, differences and justification along with reasons.

Section B (60 marks)

  • You have to attempt any 4 out of 6 subjective questions, including one case study(application based). Each question consists of 3 parts and the marks division is 5+5+5 for all of them.

Time allotment

Time -2 hours

  • Students should finish MCQs in 15 mins, and objective questions in 20 mins and the rest of the time should be devoted to solving the long answers.

  • Advertising and Brand promotion- Chap3
  • GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principle)- Chap 5
  • Financial Accounting and reporting (Theoretical aspects of accounting concepts like receipts and payments accounts, income and expenditure accounts and balance sheet)- Chap 6

Important points to remember when answering the ICSE Commercial Applications Paper

  • Students should preferably follow C.B.Gupta which is the council prescribed book. You can also refer to other books as well.
  • You must, however, remember the points which are given below:
  1. Point heading and point explanation should be given if in the question paper the following keywords are given:

Explain, discuss, elucidate

2. Only the point heading to be mentioned if in the question paper the following keywords are given: Name, mention, state, list

3. Students must not change the point headings which are mentioned in council prescribed text books. Explanations can be given in their own words but it should match with the point heading and content should be logical.

  • Students must emphasise on key words while writing answers.
  • Thorough study and reading in between lines is also very helpful to achieve a high score in the multiple choice questions.
  • Developing a habit of writing through practice, and while timing yourself is going to come in handy during the exam.
