Key Focus Areas and Last Minute Preparation Tips

  • The one thing students must do is go through the latest sample papers sent by the CBSE Board for question paper pattern and marks division.
  • The introduction of competency based questions in the language papers has made scoring high marks relatively easier for well-prepared students because it requires them to demonstrate their understanding beyond simple recalling of facts.
  • Studying a week before the exam or giving the prose pieces and poetry a reading will not be sufficient to score well. Meticulous and systematic preparation is needed with extensive grammar and writing skill practice.
  • Students need to remember that reference books are for additional help and primarily they need to adhere to the text books. Once the student has methodically revised the texts, only then should they turn to the sample papers for practice.
  • Prose pieces like A letter to God, Sermon at Benaras, A Long Walk to Freedom-Nelson Mandela, Thief’s Story, Bholi, Triumph of Surgery along with poems like Trees and The Ball Poem are quite commonly repeated chapters from the syllabus.
  • The most scoring sections are the reading comprehension questions and the grammar questions. Students can score extremely well even in the writing skills provided they are adept to the formats and have practiced regularly.
  • Read the comprehension minutely within the 15 minutes allotted for this purpose. Chalk out the answers in your mind. Not much time goes into reading the literature questions or the grammar questions. Proper utilization of the reading time is very essential. Keep atleast 1 hr 30 minutes for the Literature section.

Revision Tips

  • Since literature covers 50% of the marks in the question paper, it would not be appropriate to pick and choose and study.
  • The last 10 years board papers may be referred to, for last minute revision particularly for the literature section.
  • Since the pattern of grammar questions and writing skills may be different. The students need to keep motivating themselves and compete with themselves rather than with their peers.

'I always believe that each student will achieve great heights as per their potential and abilities. Marks are a parameter or a measure of your preparation for your exams and not a judgment of your future. Self-belief, determination, discipline, hard work and obedience are the keys to success. So study hard because success awaits all of you. Keep your focus and never give up,' advises Miss Sabah.

Eat well, sleep well and study with full dedication should be the dictum for CBSE 2024.
