Eight colleges share spotlight at The Bhawanipur Theatre Festival

Aarohan, a team from The Bhawanipur Education Society College, bagged the winner’s trophy with the play Aisa Kaisa Paisa? at Tamasha, the street play competition at The Bhawanipur Theatre Festival. The play was an attempt to free the society of financial illiteracy.

Rangpeeth from NSHM Knowledge Campus performed Manto Laapata Hai, a play based on two stories by Saadat Hasan Manto — Toba Tek Singh and Khol Do. Rangpeeth were the first runner-up.

The group from Shri Shikshayatan College, Niraakra, staged a nukkad natak, Aap hi Atithi, a satire on issues such as body-shaming, racism, marital rape, and the effects of COVID-19.

Team Muse from Maulana Azad College staged Samvidhaan, a play based on religious indiscrimination. The play threw light on Article 25, freedom of conscience, the freedom to profess, practise and propagate religion to all citizens.

The Jadavpur University Drama Club (JUDC) performed Oporichito, a satire loosely adapted from Rabindranath Tagore's play Phalguni. It focused on the farcical nature of present-day democracy.
