A Global Confluence on Supply Chain Management (SCM) was conducted at Army Institute of Management, Kolkata (AIMK) in collaboration with the Procam Group on 11 March 2023. AIMK is one of the leading management schools in India and Procam Group is a thought leader in integrated supply chain management in India. Industry-Institute collaboration for such a Seminar is expected to enrich the discipline of management and will be of immense benefit to the students at large.

The venue was graced by the presence of Mr Matti Kallio, Managing Director of Conceptum Logistics, Finland; Prof (Dr) P. K. Das, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata; Mr Nilesh Kumar Sinha, Director, Procam Group; Capt. Mayur Paralkar, Sr. General Manager & Head, Kolkata CFS, All Cargo Logistics Ltd; Mr Byomkesh Mohanty, General Manager (Materials Management), Titagarh Wagons; Mr Anand Adhikari, Global SCM Lead (Tata Communication Ltd.), Mr P. D. Sharma, General Manager (MM), Coal India; Dr Kaushik Bhattacharya, General Manager (Personal & Administration), Central Marketing Organisation, SAIL, and other dignitaries from the world of industry and academia.

The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp which was followed by an inaugural address by Maj Gen VS Ranade (Retd), Director, AIMK. Director, AIMK focused on SCM as the backbone of every business, industry and country. Welcome address by Dr. Protik Basu, Operations Chair, AIMK stressed the importance of such collaborative seminars in an educational institute. The Procam group was introduced by Mr. Sinha. The keynote address was given by Mr. Kallio stressing planning and implementing as necessary ingredients of any supply chain.

A lively panel discussion followed, focussing on National Logistics Policy vis-à-vis global practices. Prof (Dr) Das moderated the session wonderfully by connecting the dots of all the speakers, which made comprehension by the students easier. The morning session concluded with the answering of questions to quench the curiosity of the students. The second session addressed challenges and opportunities in the multi-modal supply chain, and had three presentations by luminaries from the supply chain industry. Two recorded videos on the theme were also shown, one by Mr Shankar Chatterjee, Chairman, S Cube Trans Continental Group and the other by Mr Amit Kumar, MD, North America Market Lead, Accenture Strategy & consulting.

The Global Confluence also included a poster presentation competition by the students. Various colleges participated and there were cash prizes for the same. Students showed their creativity and knowledge regarding various aspects of operations management with special emphasis on supply chain management, through their posters. The day concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr Abhishek Kumar, Principal, AIMK Procam Group was the Knowledge Partner, BCC&I was the Industry Partner and Telegraph Online Edugraph was the Education Partner for the event.
