Adamas University, School of Media and Communication organized Cinethon, a 50 hour filmmaking challenge from November 12 to 14, 2024 where students participated from all disciplines with equal enthusiasm. The participants scripted, shot, directed, acted and created a short film in its entirety and that too within 50 hours. The challenge was also to not use any locations outside the Adamas University campus.

The participants took this challenge and participated spiritedly in the 50 hours marathon of creating a short film. Adamas University is proudly the first university to organize such a movie making marathon in Kolkata. The 3 days saw the participants working with much creativity, vigor and an undying spirit and creativity.

The devotion and passion of students reflected in each and every shot they took for their short film. Students from other educational institutions of Kolkata also participated in the challenge.

On November 21, Adamas University, School of Media and Communication organized an award ceremony to applaud the efforts of the students/budding filmmakers who worked day in and day out and gave life to some wonderful stories during the filmmaking challenge in the campus. Their commendable work was acknowledged and they were awarded for best script, best actor, best cinematographer, best direction, bets editing.

Dr Akashdeep Muni, Associate Dean, School of Media and Communication, Adamas University expressed, “it is wonderful to see the passion and zeal of the students in the art of filmmaking”. Prof Radha Tamal Goswami, Pro Vice Chancellor, Adamas University, Dr Souvik Roy, Associate Dean, School of Law and Justice, Adamas University also inspired the participants with their presence.

The celebrations were graced by the presence of Ekta Bhattacharjee, the daughter of eminent director Prabhat Roy. She has collaborated with many celebrated film directors, actors and other stalwarts of the film, entertainment and sports fraternity. Ekta has been part of over four thousand national and international projects including- posters, motion graphics, vfx, television commercials, corporate brandings and other publicity designs. And recently she has co-authored a bestseller book with Prabhat Roy.

Ekta was enthralled to see the work of the students and remarked, “the young students have done excellent work and put their soul into the films which they have created”. She critically appreciated the films made by the students and was happy to hand over the awards to them.
