Olivia Rodrigo misses out on AMA but wins hearts

Her song ‘Driver's License’ is an ode to broken hearts

The Favourite Music Video Category at American Music Awards was tightly contested this year, with Lil Nas X’s MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) emerging victorious. However, it was Driver’s License, Olivia Rodrigo's debut single, that won our hearts with its heartwarming lyrics and gorgeous visuals. 

The cinematography, lighting and production of the video go a long way in capturing how heartbreaks can leave someone utterly lonely. In the video, Rodrigo is under a constant spotlight, emphasising how alone she feels. Even routine tasks like driving, walking on a street, or just composing music in her apartment have an air of suffocation around them, one that every heartbroken person would relate to. Despite the technical nuance, the video never feels overproduced and preserves the intimacy of Rodrigo's music.
