Mission semi-final for Kolkata Thunderbolts against Ahmedabad Defenders

Coming off losses, both teams will look to get back on track in the PVL

On Tuesday, the Hyderabad Black Hawks ended the undefeated streak of the Kolkata Thunderbolts, partnered by The Telegraph My Kolkata, in the Prime Volleyball League (PVL). On Friday, a resurgent Bengaluru Torpedoes snatched the perfect record of the Ahmedabad Defenders. This means that Saturday's clash between these two title contenders will be about returning to winning ways and putting one foot in the semi-finals.

Ahmedabad will rely as usual on their ability to block all corners of the court and capitalise on the opponent's mistakes, with Muthusamy Appavu and Rodrigo Villalba expected to play key roles. Meanwhile, the Thunderbolts, who should have captain Ashwal Rai back in action after an injury, will be keen on serving better and attacking with more intent than they did against the Black Hawks.

In S. Dakshinamoorthy and Sunny Joseph, the clash also pits two of the most experienced coaches in the PVL against each other, making the tactical time-outs all the more intriguing in a must-not-lose match for both teams.
